Parting ways with the Sentinel, and looking forward
ONI is going mobile.
It’s been three months since we set up our local-news experiment with the Portland Sentinel, swapping our journalism for a shared office space. And though we were able to contribute some solid journalism to a terrific local-news outlet, we simply weren’t able to recruit enough people interested in the project to sustain the partnership. Those of us who used the office were working such different hours that we weren’t able to generate the synergy ONI is supposed to be all about.
So we’re trying a new tack.
We’re amicably parting ways with the Sentinel, where publisher Cornelius Swart is continuing with other adventures, and switching to another co-working model: we’re scheduling regular work sessions at rotating locations around Portland, a few days each week.
We’re calling them “workparties.” Here’s the calendar. At the moment, we’ve got them set up for Mondays in Southeast, Wednesdays in Northwest and Fridays in Southwest, but we’re considering other locations, too.
If you’re interested in knuckling down on work with some fellow journos, stop by. If you listen closely, you might even hear us planning our next move.
